Mononucleosis

Mono came to our household again and hit with a vengeance. My son came down with the dreaded virus along with a gut infection.  The symptoms were quite different from when my daughter had it (I don’t remember alien-looking growths sprouting from her throat) and it hit him hard.  The fatigue was overwhelming; especially when layered on top of fatigue from an autoimmune disease.  Jacob was in bed for the better part of two weeks.  After a visit to the ER, some IV fluids and a round of steroids, he is on the mend.  The steroids were to help reduce the swelling in his tonsils.  They became scary swollen-to the point that breathing was difficult-hence the trip to the ER.  Thankfully we have not seen any side effects from the steroids.
